The ANC has removed Obed Bapela from its National Executive Committee. This over his recent controversial Morocco trip. The dismissal of Obed Bapela from his position in the NEC of the ANC puts a spotlight on the party's foreign policy position, particularly on the contested Western Sahara.
Bapela was the deputy chairperson of international relations sub-committee of the ANC until he was dismissed from this position on earlier this month. The ANC adopted a resolution at its 55th national conference supporting the recognition and self determination of the Saharawi people in the Western Sahara. The ANC regards Morocco as a "colonising power" in Western Sahara.
