President Ramaphosa has just elaborated on SA’s relationship with China in 11 minutes.
The loud several applauses President Ramaphosa received as he expressed his appreciation to China for her hospitality spoke volumes.
The unequivocal clarification of SA’s one China policy will leave no room for confusion henceforth. It also pre-empts SA position should People’s Republic of China (PRC) decides otherwise on Taiwan.
Moreover, the endorsement of One China Policy represents everyone in the Government of National Unity including the DA and IFP who have been flip flopping over the years in this regard.
This position certainly puts Eswatini in a difficult position. Eswatini recognized the Republic of China (ROC) over the People's Republic of China (PRC) , and have since maintained formal diplomatic relations with the ROC.
In his 11 minutes long speech, Ramaphosa endorsed all China’s draft proposals to the conference. These will form part of the final report of the conference.
Ramaphosa also encouraged China to work together with Africa on Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). This dovetails with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
China is set to increase its investment and development in Africa immensely.
