Finally, Justice for Thomas Sankara.
35 years later; the family of the former president of Bukina Faso, Thomas Sankara, gets justice.
Former President of Bukina Faso, Blaise Compaore was found guilty of the murder of Thomas Sankara in October 1987.
Compaore rose to power after the killing of Sankara and ruled Bukina Faso for 27 years. He is currently in exile in Ivory Coast.
The ruling against Compaore has raised suspicions of France's culpability in the killing of Sankara.
Bukina Faso faces a number of political challenges. The conviction of Compaore raises additional political questions:
What does this mean for the future of the coup leader and President of Bukina Faso Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba? The news of the conviction of Compaore is likely to increase his popularity.
What does this mean to the relationship between France and Bukina Faso moving forward, if indeed France was somehow culpable?
