Today we woke up to news of an “attempted coup” in Khartoum, Sudan last night.
Here is what we know:
1. The details are still scanty of what exactly happened. We know, according to some sources , that the apparent coup leader is Major General Abdel Baqi Bakrawi.
2. According to the speaker of the Sovereign Council, an interim government in Sudan, Mohamad Faki Sulleiman “things are back to normal and the coup has been thwarted.
Afrasid asks:
1. Was the coup staged by some within the military in order to deal with possible contenders to the position of the leader of the military in the Sovereign Council, Mohamad Hamadan Dagalo aka Hemeti?
2. Could it be that some of the supporters of Omar Al Bashir who is facing crimes against humanity at the Hague are behind the “attempted” coup?
3. Sudan has been facing rolling mass protests, could it be that the military used “the attempted coup” plot in order to implement state of emergency?
