The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently announced that a Malaria Vaccine for children is ready for a rollout.
There have been excitement and apprehension on the news almost on equal measure. Critics question the prioritisation of Africans by global medical fraternity. Why did it take this long to come up with a vaccine? Malaria has had and continues to have a devastating impact on African children.
The other concern is regarding patent rights; are African governments and manufacturers going to be allowed to mass produce the vaccines?
